Internship Opportunity with NAPM

Volunteer Now !

National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM) is an alliance of several different grass root people’s struggle in India working on a range of issues related to socio-economic-political- justice and equity. This means that the allied organisations in this wide network, that has its veins running across the country, are deeply engaged in working on a wide spectrum of issues, to list a few- development, displacement, urban and rural planning, environmental concerns, human right violations, livelihood rights, labour concerns, indiscriminate industrialization, corporate accountability, corruption and transparency, governance.

NAPM started when the processes of Liberalisation, Privatisation and Globalisation were beginning to take shape, Hindu Right was picking steam in the shadow of Babri Masjid demolition and TINA – There is No Alternative, was propounded as the mantra for the time. Since then we have come a long way and have waged important struggles along with many other movements, voluntary organisations, federations and forums, sympathetic intellectuals, artists, students and others against WTO, World Bank, Enron, SEZs, big dams, rural and urban evictions and displacements, atrocities against women, adivasis, and Dalits and communalism and continue to do so.

The network runs on donations from supporters and their good will.

What we are looking for…

NAPM is currently seeking volunteers/interns to join them in their many different works. This could involve working on specific issues or campaigns. This could also mean contributing through your specific skill sets in your own time. For instance, you may choose to help out with daily logistics and documentation while experiencing NAPM. If you are into writing or media you may like to consider writing a blog or developing podcasts for the website.  If you are more inclined towards research you can support us through your fact finding work or focused reviews on specific issues. If you are artistic then possibly you would like to contribute by designing t-shirts, banners, posters or by producing interesting graffiti, etc. And if you would like to take a step further produce a movement pamphlet and advocate for various issues in public forums like colleges then by all means do that. In nutshell, there is no limit to ways in which you can join and contribute.

What is in it for you…

While, this is a voluntary role, it will be an incredible way to enrich your world view by understanding different issues, developing skills on campaigning and political work, gaining experience on organizing and mobilizing people and exploring the potential of your own skills in this work. Not to mention the many exciting opportunities to interact and work with key activists in the country like Medha Patkar, Sandeep Pandey, Prafulla Samantara, Ulka Mahajan, Suniti S R, Gabriele Dietrich, P Chennaiah, Roma, Dayamani Barla and many others across the country. You may decide to work at the Delhi Secretariat office, regional offices or from the comfort of your home.

The finer nuances of how you can contribute can be worked out once you have decided. And once you do then the only prerequisites are will and skill.

If you are interested then kindly write to us with a brief about yourself mentioning your background, education, experiences, time commitment, language, computer or other skills, expectations from this association and preference of place of internship. Our main coordinating centre is New Delhi.
